Looked After Children (LAC) is one of Andersen Care outcomes-focused approach for providing good and safe care for children placed in out-of-home care.

Andersen Care aims to provide a practical framework for considering how each looked after child’s needs will be met whilst taking into consideration the best interest of the child while that child is living in one of our safe and secure accommodation. 

We also aim to ensure that looked after children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care.

Our Team

Our looked after children team comprises of our care managers, carers, foster carers or residential workers, child protection practitioner, contracted case manager, volunteers and adults directly involved in caring for the child such as family members.

Our team will take the necessary action to ensure all looked after children have the best outcome whilst under care.

When a child is placed in one of our accommodation, our highly qualified and trained staff will share the responsibilities for doing the things that the parents generally do.

Andersen Housing provides young people in and on the edge of care with the support they need, when they need it.  Our support can help them to achieve their potential.

Andersen Housing provides a secure, caring environment which will help looked after children overcome their early life challenges and negative experiences.

  1. We embed an emphasis on emotional wellbeing throughout the system.  Our staff have the skills and knowledge to understand how they can support the emotional wellbeing of looked after children and young people.
  2. We take a proactive and preventative approach.  We undertake a thorough assessment of looked after children emotional and mental health needs.
  3. We give children and young people voice and influence.  We realise that looked after children and young people need more opportunities to identify what is important to them and influence their own care.
  4. We support and sustain children’s relationships.  
  5. We support looked after children’s emotional needs, we help them identify and strengthen their support networks.

Our Service in terms of semi-independent accommodation for looked after children caters for on spot purchasing so as to respond to various placement options while considering the different needs of each looked after child.

We also supply accommodation that is suitable for looked after children within most London Boroughs.

Safety and Wellbeing of the looked after children (LAC):

Andersen Care staff will constantly guide its care support team to effectively work together to respond to the child’s safety, wellbeing and developmental needs while that child is in our care.

We will consider the child’s needs and outcomes while taking into consideration each child’s safety, wellbeing and developmental objectives.

There will be an established level of staff support.  Our staff will:

  • visit the person on an scheduled basis;
  • offer 24-hour presence;
  • offer supported housing whereby provision is based purely on support with no personal care required.

We also work closely with a specialist team comprise of advocacy groups and anumber of health professionals who are committed to helping transgender young  people who don’t understand transgender identity as well as specific key workers who are available to help transgender young people address the complex physical and emotional issues they might face.
